Goodbye Singapore. Hello Borneo

Our last few days in Singapore have been a whirl of activity and new experiences. The Gardens by the Bay are just mind blowing. These gardens have been created on land reclaimed from the sea and represent all the plant zones of the world. We did a tour of the outside gardens and then went into two indoor domes. The tropical zone has the worlds largest indoor water fool and you walk down and through and around it on an amazingly spectacular journey. The plants and flowers took your breath away. Such creativity. The flower dome was gearing up for Halloween so lots of pumpkins interspersed between the flowers and plants.

Then outside the fern and orchid tree towers were lighting up. The lights are powered by solar panels on their roof and the gardens contain and conserve their own water. The sound and light show was spectacular as lights danced between the towers. Certainly a highlight of the trip. We were all spellbound by it all. Then back to bed after a very long day.

Of course we had to find a pub to watch the preliminary final. Settled I'm at Muddy Murphys and fortunately all expats were Richmond supporters so was a good afternoon. The challenge will be finding a sports bar in Sandakan for the Grand Final. Darrel, Sam and Jude not overly fussed but Andrea, Tom and Pat are diehard Richmond supporters so suppose we best do the right thing.

A quieter day was spent riding the cable cars to Sentosa Island and Mt Fabre with stopovers at Harbourside shopping center for lunch. Travelled over more reclaimed land and what was once dockland is now very luxurious very expensive condominiums. Apartments are in short supply and so are becoming too expensive for many locals. Wish I could show photos but with my fear of heights had eyes closed for a lot of it and spent my time tell g others not to move.

Our last night was spent in Chinatown where Andrea went a little crazy with the shopping. Enough said!!!!  We had been to Little India but were disappointed in the changes here but Chinatown still has all the magic of the food stalls,  lights, activities and history.

Our last day was spent just chilling till we had to head to airport for our flight to Kota Kinabalu. I think Singapore with its order cleanliness and modernity is going to be a tough act to follow. We. Have had amazing conversations with our numerous taxi drivers and people we have met on our travels.

Now Borneo awaits

Love to all Lyn Darrell Andrea Sam Jude Tom and Pat
