Getting started.

On 18th September, 2017 we are going on a fabulous 25 day adventure to Singapore, Sabah and Sarawak. The group consists of Lyn and Darrell, our daughter Andrea, her children Taylah, Thomas and Patrick and grandsons Sam and Jude Hayes. It will be wonderful for the cousins to spend time together as the boys are of similar ages - 10, 10,11 and 13 and Andrea and Taylah can assist in wrangling them. All the boys will have tasks from managing the money, the suitcases ( lots of them with 8 people) being chief photographer and blog poster.



We will be spending 7 days in fabulous 
Singapore before flying off for 18 days in 
Borneo. In Singapore we are staying at the 
luxury Treetops Executive Apartments which 
is in the heart of the city. From here we 
should be able to enjoy the experiences, 
sights, sounds, tastes and smells of 
Singapore. On the agenda is the Singapore Zoo, 
Universal Studios, River Cruise, 
Butterfly garden,Gardens by the Bay
Light Show at the Marina, theArt/Science Museum,

the Singapore Discovery Centre and Singapore Flyer.

In Borneo we hope to experience the wildlife -the orangutans, proboscis monkeys, sun bears and if we are lucky the pygmy elephant and Sumatran rhinoceros. The island is full of amazing and unique plants, butterflies, birds and fish. Borneo is a place of great natural beauty with a landscape that is varied and magnificent.
We will be staying at Kota Kinabalu and Sandakan in Sabah and Kuching in Sarawak before flying back to Singapore and then home on the 13th October.Sunset & Seaview Vacation Condos @ Marina Court Resort Condo, Kota Kinabalu

In Kota Kinabalu we are staying at the Sunset and Seaview Condos @ Marina Court. This is close to the Jesselton Wharf so we can cruise out to the islands and Tunku Abdul Marine Park. The kids will love the head hunter display in the Monsopiod Cultural show and the Mari Mari Cultural Centre.
Sabah Hotel Sandakan, Sandakan, Outdoor Pool

At Sandakan we have a week at the Sabah Hotel. So much to see here. The orangutans at Sepilok, the proboscis monkeys at Labuk Bay, Sun Bear Conservation Village, cruising up the Kinabatangan River where hopefully we will see wild elephants and rhinoceros, the fishermans village on stilts and the War Memorial.

The Ariva Gateway Apartments are our home for a short visit to Kuching. This is close to the Sarawak River which will allow us to catch the river taxis and cruise the river. Our plan is to get out to the Iban long houses which are the homes of the head hunters!!!

Planning is almost completed now with all flights and hotels booked and airport transfers being arranged. We are all starting to get a bit excited with the countdown on. Lists upon lists are being prepared and crossed off.

Spectacular singapore

well we got away ok all arriving at the airport from three different directions at much the same time which was a great relief. Flight was very comfortable, well as comfortable as economy class can be. Arrival at Singapore and customs and immigration very busy. Still our bus was waiting for us and Treetops apartments are fantastic. We have two 2 bedroom apartments with all the bells and whistles. Each bedroom has its own en suite so we are very comfortable. The pool is amazing and we tested it out the first night. We have squirrels in our garden and the resort is very environmentally friendly. On our first day we decided to take it easy so we hit the shops. Two shopping malls later we were exhausted so returned back to the pool. So very hot here. In the evening we went to the Singapore zoo night safari. What a fantastic experience it is. The animals are so close and we all enjoyed it. Goodbye Singapore. Hello Borneo

Our last few days in Singapore have been a whirl of activity and new experiences. The Gardens by the Bay are just mind blowing. These gardens have been created on land reclaimed from the sea and represent all the plant zones of the world. We did a tour of the outside gardens and then went into two indoor domes. The tropical zone has the worlds largest indoor water fool and you walk down and through and around it on an amazingly spectacular journey. The plants and flowers took your breath away. Such creativity. The flower dome was gearing up for Halloween so lots of pumpkins interspersed between the flowers and plants.   Then outside the fern and orchid tree towers were lighting up. The lights are powered by solar panels on their roof and the gardens contain and conserve their own water. The sound and light show was spectacular as lights danced between the towers. Beautiful Borneo

Our arrival at Kota Kinabalu was reasonably smooth. Got to our apartments and they were a bit of a let down after Treetops in Singapore. Still they were clean and spacious so we managed for the three nights. We had some amazing luck at the shopping mall. Managed to get a wonderful taxi driver with a 7 seat taxi who became our guide for the day. He took us to the floating mosque, Atkinson Tower and Signal  Hill to get the most amazing views over the city. He was able to answer all the boys questions about why the domes on the mosque are blue and the components of the Malaysian flag. The red stripes signify the army, the star is the king and the crescent moon is for Islam religion. The Sabah state flag includes the blue mountains of this beautiful state. However the piece de resistance was the Mari Mari Cultural Village.
